A large folk art model of an American three masted bark
American, late 19th or early 20th century
the hull built up in plank on frame/bulkhead construction with a red painted bottom, black topsides with a white waist band leading to a foliate decorated billet head, white cap rail, and the deck planked in sheets of veneer with the planking lines scored in. Detailed with bit post, pin and fife rails, anchor windlass, dog house with windows and doors, water cask, deck hatch, a pair of ship's boats swung out on davits, main cabin with skylight, doors and windows, ship's wheel and other details. Rigged with a bow sprit, three masts, cross spars, boom and gaffs, standing and running rigging, cotton sails, and other rigging details. Displayed on a simple wood cradle.
