A fine gold-inlaid nephrite hilted Ottoman jambiya
late 16th or 17th century
The curved 10 1/2 inch double edged Persian blade of dark, watered steel chiseled with a narrow central rib and with an inscription above the hilt reading Amal-e Feyzollāh Šuštari/Yā Fattāh (The work of Feyzollah of Sustar; the reverse with Nasron Min Allahi Wa Fathon Qareeb (Help from God and Early Victory). The green nephrite hilt inlaid overall with a delicate arabesque design in gold. The pommel surmounted by a large red cabochon, probably a ruby. Associated green velour-covered scabbard of later manufacture, the silver mounts embossed with foliage.
Condition: Excellent. Blade showing some very minor wear to pattern. Hilt with minor losses to gold inlay and small area of chipping to one corner of guard.
