A fine Indian guarded katar
17th or early 18th century
Broad, acutely pointed 22 inch blade with eight deep fuller converging in a chevron pattern. Base of blade with pierced reinforcing panels on either side, the three rivets with gold, blossom-form washers. Scrolling guard with animal head finial and molded with borders having scrollwork panels and heavy gold overlay. Flared sidestraps with gold highlights, the double grip with large central spheres. With custom metal display stand.
Condition: Fine. Showing dark patina overall. Minor losses to gilt decoration.
