1932 Norton 348cc Model 50
Registration no. WP 5867
Frame no. 48450
Engine no. 2035
Introduced for 1933, the single-cylinder Model 50 was Norton's first production overhead-valve machine in the 350 class; the 50 and its twin-port brother the 55 being junior versions of the 490cc Models 18 and 20 respectively. The new 350s were fitted with the four-speed Sturmey Archer gearbox that was adopted for all OHV Nortons that year; hand change was standard, with foot change an optional extra. Norton factory records held by the VMCC show that this early Model 50 was despatched to Messrs Bateman in Kidderminster on 5th November 1932 and not sold new until March 1934 when it was bought by one G Lloyd of Charton in Worcestershire. A dynamo, foot change and competition pipe are listed as 'extras'. Restored in 1978, 'WP 5867' was previously owned by Mr Stewart Smith, who had bought it in 1960 from Alan Walker, a pre-war racer. Last taxed/MoT'd to 1993/94, the machine will require re-commissioning and the usual safety checks before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Offered with service manual extracts, expired MoTs (x3) and Swansea V5C.
