Footnotes

  • Provenance:
Purchased from Donald S. Ellis, Dundas, Ont., June 1993; cleaned and mounted by The DeYoung Textile Conservation Laboratory of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, Project TPL 01.07.02a, UV plexiglass box provided by Walter H. Gorman, Fine Art Installation, December 2001; appeared in the exhibit Northwest Coast Indian Art Tradition: Collected Heritage, Grace Hudson Museum, Ukiah, CA, 6 September – 23 November 2003

Chilkat blanket, a good one and fairly well woven. It does have the same design but not same weaver as mine, (see comparisons). There is one small color shift in the upper corners. You can see the difference in the weaving in these comparison pictures. The image on the left (my blanket) has formline shapes more similar to painted examples. Designs on many blankets diverge somewhat from classic painted forms. In some cases it is because the pattern boards were badly painted.
