This container was carried and used by the second manned Skylab crew (SL-3) commanded by Alan Bean during July and August 1973. It logged over 59 days in space while in earth orbit. The S019 camera was designed to record ultraviolet (UV) spectra lines from stars and other astronomical objects. It was comprised of a specially designed 35mm camera, UV film, and a special reflecting telescope mounted to the Skylab airlock. At the end of the flight, the camera and film were placed in this container then stowed in the Command Module B1 storage locker for return to earth.
Included are copies of documents listing the NASA artifact number (1623) being from Command Module (S/C # 117) for the transfer to the National Air and Space Museum (NASM) and de-accession papers from NASM.
The outer flap has been boldly signed and inscribed by ALAN BEAN with "Skylab 3 CDR."
