1953 Jaguar XK120M Cabriolet
Chassis no. S677793
Engine no. V6777-8

Launched in 1951, the 'Special Equipment' XK120 - known in the USA as the XK120M (for 'Modified') - was originally shipped to Jaguar's East Coast agent, Max Hoffman. By the time it returned from Florida to the UK in the early 1990s it had already been restored. At some time in the USA, the original 3.4-litre engine had been damaged by frost and a replacement 3.4-litre XK150 installed. Acquired by the immediately preceding owner at Brooks' 1993 Earls Court auction (Lot 180), the car had covered only a minimal mileage subsequently when it was purchased at Brooks' Goodwood Festival of Speed sale (Lot 751) by the present family in 1998, since when it has resided in Austria.

Since acquisition the car has been fastidiously maintained regardless of cost and benefited from further extensive work, including a new full leather interior in dark green with lighter green piping, new petrol tank, new wiring and an electric cooling fan. A perfect touring car offering both open and closed motoring in considerable style, the XK120 has been used and enjoyed on private summer tours abroad and closer to home. Kept in dry storage and not used in recent months, the car comes with Austrian registration papers and should require only light re-commissioning before further use.
