An extensive Meissen tea and coffee service, circa 1765-70
Each piece painted with a detailed landscape including Kauffahrtei scenes with richly costumed figures, ornate buildings and many fanciful ruins, the white ground with some scattered flower sprigs, the borders with intricate gold scrollwork, comprising: a large coffee pot and cover, 26.5cm high, a slop bowl, 16.3cm diam., a sucrier and cover, a teapot and cover (tiny chips), a milkjug and cover, a spoon tray (riveted), twelve teacups (two chipped), six coffee cups (two chipped, two damaged) and fifteen saucers (two chipped, one riveted), crossed swords and dot marks; together with seven other coffee cups and eight saucers in similar style but with simple gold dentil rims (some damaged and rubbed) (58)
