An important Neale and Co porcelain tea canister by Fidelle Duvivier, circa 1785-90
Painted in sepia with a standing figure in a landscape, a Dutch-gabled house and a smoking kiln in the background, the reverse with two figures in conversation, gilt line and dentil borders, 10.7cm high (cover lacking, minute chip)

  • Provenance: The Godden Reference Collection. Acquired by Billie Pain from Geoffrey Godden and bought back by him in these rooms 26 November 2003, lot 330. This formed part of a service painted by Duvivier probably while he worked as an independent decorator after he had left New Hall. The sucrier from the service is illustrated by Godden, Staffordshire Porcelain (1983), pl.69.
