A very rare Lakin and Poole bulb pot and cover and a candlestick, circa 1791-95
In enamelled pearlware, the bulb pot formed as a Neoclassical vase painted with medallions and garlands and gilt sprigs, resting on entwined spouting dolphins fountains, the cover pierced, 22.2cm high, impressed Lakin & Poole (some damage and restoration), the candlestick with a wide base supporting a bifrontal Caryatid delicately painted in soft colours, 27.8cm high, impressed Lakin & Poole (some restoration) (2)

  • A similar candlestick is illustrated by Rolalie Sharp, Ceramics Ethics and Scandal (2002), p. 83. A related candlestick shape was made by Bradley and Co. and as a result the present lot was exhibited in the Coalport China Works Museum in 2004.
