English, circa 1870,
ornamentally turned, one side stained red, the other side left natural, kings surmounted with Maltese crosses, queens with feather finials, bishops as open mitres, knights as horses' heads, rooks as raised turrets, pawns with ball finials, all the chessmen with elaborate turning and beaded circular bases,
the king 10.5cm high, the pawn 4.5cm high.
