by Pierre-André Montauban, engraved to the flange, Montauban, Quai des Orfevres No 54, with the Post-Revolutionary unofficial standard mark for 18 carat gold Paris, and the Restricted warranty mark for 1809-1819,
of book form, the covers set with 18th century tortoiseshell panels with vari-coloured gold wirework decoration of flowers, ribbons, shells, scrolls and garlands, within chased foliate scroll frames, the spine set with rectangular 'tortoiseshell' moss agate panels, in a later Garrard's green leather case, length 9cm.

  • Pierre-AndrĂ© Montauban registered his mark in 1800. It is likely that the tortoiseshell panels came from an aide memoire that had become unfashionable, for an example see ex-lot 455, these rooms, 9 November 2004.
