Footnotes

  • This was to see the light of day as 'The Phantom Raspberry Blower Of Old London Town' in BBC TV's series 'The Two Ronnies' in the 1970s. It was credited to 'Spike Milligan And A Gentleman', the latter now known to be Gerald Wiley, the nom de plume adopted by Ronnie Barker for his contributions to this and other shows. As originally conceived by Milligan in this original draft, it was designed to be a vehicle for the stars of The Goon Show, last broadcast in 1960. Although cast, it never went into production, largely due to Peter Sellers' film commitments. The production for 'The Two Ronnies' turned it into an episodic format, with dialogue changes to accommodate this, whilst sticking fairly closely to the original plot and characters, featuring a Jack The Ripper-style madman haunting Victorian London's street and maiming or killing his victims by blowing a raspberry at them.
