A fine gold, enamel and pictorial enamel oval-form Carillion bell case,
stamped GG, circa 1805,
originally for a four or six-bell fusee-drive movement, most probably by J. Rich, actuation bar present from lid open press, sound frets with gold plate cover, plain polished main and key compartment interiors, the lid top with full enamel scene of travellers on animals passing a figure with cattle by a bridge before a watermill, island lake and mountainous landscape beyond, the frame of tooled stylised flower heads and triple darts on black ground with an intermediate band of white enamel, ribbon twist edge, finely pierced fret holes to four corners of five-string lyres flanked by laurel towers and pillars, repeated white enamel banding, four cobalt blue enamel panels with chevron frames and finished with mitre frieze tops, the underside with large cobalt blue panel with lornette engine-turned decoration beneath, matched lid frame border, (some cobalt blue enamel with restoration) - 3.1/2in. (9cm) wide, the depth 2.3/8in. (6cm), the height 1.1/4in. (3.2cm)
