with going-barrel movement, the bird with dark-toned feathered plumage in hues of dark brown and midnight blue, iridescent highlights in red and green, moving metal beak, wings and tailfeather to continuous birdsong, rising through pierced and tooled gilt grille, plain polished lid interior, the case in the form of a closed book, with double hinged straps to page side, the front and back boards with corner, strap bosses and enamel surmounts embellished with garnets, sapphires and green chalceolougs, on transverse chevron wave-line engine turned ground, the double oval painted enamel studies depicting chateau beside boating lake to bird lid, the other for access to winding spindle with a view of a castle upon mountain ridge with lagoon below, the spine sliding for hidden compartment, start/stop pull to right-hand side, no key - 4.1/2in. (11.5cm) wide
