An important and early ornamental turning lathe and accessories outfit, late 18th Century,
signed F. Brown to some of the accessories, the lathe with massive brass flywheel of double ovoid and plain strut spokes, intermediate turned ivory drive handle, supported on triangular frame to the cabinet body, double groove for belt to the bedplate, thick brass base with U-form steel unions to drive shaft, chuck wheel with static and adjustable tool rests, dividing table, rosette cams with shaped springs tensioned from the bedplate, manual turn crank to left with ivory handle, diametric square steel core and attachment bar for centre point, on Cuban mahogany cabinet body with sixteen variously-sized drawers for the fittings, accessories including hand tools and chisels, swash-work attachments, oval chuck, dome chuck, thread chaser faces, dyes, screws and other related and specifically-manufactured pieces; together with a small slight-slope front box from the same period containing further accessories and tools, some wrapped in paper hand-written with the content list, removable trays for access and hole drilled areas for fittings to the box for additional work; and a small quantity of turned ivory parts completed on lathe, a very comprehensive outfit of micro-proportions - 15.5in (39.5cm) cabinet body width, the bedplate width 9.5in (24cm), the accessory box width, 12in (30cm)

    This very rare example of a late 18th century ornamental lathe, is in superb original working condition. Not usually seen complete at this size, the list of accessories is almost endless and the work which can be completed on one of these by a gentleman in his library/workshop, is spectacular.
