No. 258,
with fusee movement, C. Bruguier signature with address inscribed to single spring loafer, 1-2-3-4 sequential birdsong from eight-cam stack, the bird with rippled feathered plumage in a predominant dark brown hue, highlighted with orange, turquoise and red lower body streaks, iridescent green tones, formally moving bone beak, head, wings and tailfeather, rising through pierced and chased gilt grille, the lid interior with a large floral spray on clipper blue ground, the lid top with a fine painted enamel study of a sailing boat on a lake with a fisherman by the shore, dwellings on opposing banks against snow-topped mountains beyond and a mature tree rooted on the rocky outcrop, within shaped silver frame, in the silver-gilt case with main lid bearing all-over decoration of geometric forms with floral spandrels in cobalt blue, clipper blue, white and emerald green enamels, shaped corners, base with tooled matrix panels to all sides and underside on wave-line ground, hidden key compartment at rear, gilt start button to front-right, in original black travelling case with key; and two letters, one from a relative of the current owner; another from Bonhams dated 10 May 1978 regarding a valuation for this piece; and a small old slip of paper showing instructions for operation - 4in. (10cm) wide

  • It should be noted that although two repairer's marks/signatures appear in the inside of the base (for the years 1871 and 1951), the movement does not currently work as intended. This piece is being offered as a restoration project.
