A singing bird-in-cage, by Bontems,
circa 1890,
with single-spring key-wind motor, double metal fin governor, two cam wheels for bird and continuous birdsong within three-pillar brass movement, blue inked Bontems stamp inside base, the singing bird with yellow and avocado green feathers, moving head, naturalistic beak and tailfeather, on brass T form perch, a static companion with light brown and turquoise feathers on tree stump beside on now threadbare green velvet ground, under square domed cage with opening door and canted corners, boss top with hoop, the later gilt gesso base with floral appliqués, on plain plinth and bun feet, with T-bar key, (bellows need re-covering, bird movements tentative) - 21in. (53.5cm) high
