signed Andrw Ross London, the bar-limb construction with coarse and fine focusing, mechanical stage with rotating sub-stage and plano/concave reflector, on Y-shaped tripod foot, in mahogany case with live box, un-named 1 inch objective, Ross 1 and 2 inch objectives, lieberkuhn, eyepiece filter, analyser, dark ground condenser, stage forceps, and four oculars, the case with recesses brass carrying handles at the side 18in (46cm) high

  • This microscope is an early example of Andrew Ross's new design introducing the steady Y-shaped stand. It was first described in the "London Physiological Journal" for December 1843 and the illustration was reissued as the frontispiece to John Quekett A Practical Treatise on the use of the Microscope 1st edn (1848).
