An important folio of very early photographic studies of the first X-Rays,
Dr. Alfred C. Wilson, developed 1895-1901,
the bound photographic folio with card pages containing 24 shadow prints of hands, forearms, legs and elbow joints, some showing the existence of rings and wire ties used for the repair of broken bones, most inscribed with the date of exposure and some with the length of the spark gap in the tube used to generate the electricity to create the image; and 11 loose photographs, including further exposures of hands and other human limbs; an X-ray spot test page with inscribed element keys for each spot; three studies of a snake, with one page inscribed on verso John 11-30p.m., 20/6/00 Food John June 16th [to the 24th], with what and when John the snake was fed before being X-rayed to show food travelling along different points in his body; two further studies of John and his food digesting project; a study of a rat dated May 1898; and of a black bird with details on verso shot at Gosport Wood Nov '97; together with a blank sheet of headed paper for A. C. Wilson bearing the Stockton-on-Tees address (36) - average paper size 8.1/2 x 6.1/2ins. (22 x 16.5cm)
