A George II wooden doll, English circa 1750
The painted gesso face with rouged cheeks, inserted black pupil-less eyes, dotted lashes and brows over a single line, painted red mouth, nostrils and dots to inner eye, carved ears, nailed on brown wig with long neck, torso tapering to the waist, with square hips, and legs jointed at hips and knees, padded cloth upper arms and carved wood lower arms, wearing original taupe silk gown, with slit for pocket, the bodice with a pink silk bow, under a striped muslin pinafore, lace cuffs, heavy cream underskirt with printed red flowers, with hidden pocket embroidered with flowers and holding her handkerchief, further underskirt with pink and yellow silk hem, long white woollen socks with red garters, silk boots with red ribbons, knitted gloves and holding her silk pomander, together with a wooden chair. 46cm (18in) tall.
