Footnotes

  • The present watch dial was changed for the current black dial with white gold hour markers and hands by Patek Philippe.

The Reference. 3970 was introduced to replace the successful model Reference 2499, which had been produced from 1951 to 1985. When the Reference 3970 was first made Patek Philippe would upon special request allow a customer to order a custom dial such as this example. The dial changes were normally after the original sale and this resulted in some interesting and extremely rare case and dial combinations.

The 3970 is now considered a classic and examples with rare dial combinations are highly prized for the discerning collector.
