A large French late 19th century mahogany, gilt and patinated bronze centre-table
in the manner of Adam Weisweiler
the rectangular Fleur de Pêcher marble top above a pierced scrolling vine frieze centred to the front and back by a panel depicting cherubs emblematic of the Arts and Science, on tapering legs each surmounted by a basket-bearing caryatid figure, joined by a shaped stretcher centred by a basket, on circular tapering feet, one mount stamped G.G to the back, 127.5cm wide, 74.5cm deep, 80.5cm high (50" wide, 29" deep, 31.5" high).

  • This large centre table is after the celebrated table, now in the Louvre Museum, made by Adam Weisweiler (1744-1820) and delivered to Marie-Antoinette's cabinet intérieur at Château de Saint-Cloud in 1784. In the 19th century it was subsequently bought by Empress Eugènie at auction and placed in her Salon Bleu at the Tuileries.
