    Thence by descent

    The vendor's parents, Winnifred Bird and the illustrator and cartoonist Alex Graham, were friends of the Roberts at Glasgow School of Art. They also spent time together in Paris, and lived in London in the mid 1940's. The apparently playful inscription may refer to Winnifred.
