Sir James Quaile Somerville (d.1800), 3rd Bt, wearing mauve coat and waistcoat both with gold embroidered trim and buttons, white lace cravat and stock, black solitaire, his powdered wig worn en queue and tied with a black ribbon bow.
Signed on the obverse with initials and dated NH/ 1760, gold frame with paste ruby mounted blue glass border, the reverse with blue glass border surrounding gilt-mounted aperture, glazed to reveal plaited hair.

  • Sir James Quaile Somerville, 3rd Baronet Somerville, of Somerville, co. Meath was the only son of Sir Quaile Somerville, 2nd Bt. (1714-1772) and his first wife Mary Warburton. He married Catherine Crofton, daughter of Sir Marcus Lowther-Crofton, 1st Bt. and Catherine Crofton, on the 16th June 1770. Together they had one son, Sir Marcus Somerville, 4th Bt. (d.1831).
