Footnotes

  • In 1720, Catherine Fairfax married Henry Pawson, son of Elias Pawson, Lord Mayor of York (1704) in St. Andrew's Church at Newton Kyme Hall, one of the Fairfax family's estates. The couple had six children.

Catherine was the daughter of Admiral Robert Fairfax (1665–1725) and his wife Esther Tomlinson (née Bushell), who was a widow and the sister of Admiral Fairfax's former Captain. Although Esther was ten years his senior, Fairfax had retained a boyish attachment to her from the time of his first going to sea.
