A mid 19th century Argentan shallow flounce
With a design of large medallions enclosing floral sprays and joined by garlands and ribbons, 100 x 27cm (sd), which matches the deeper flounce illustrated on page 143 of 'Lace, History and Fashion' by Anne Kraatz and also page 167 in 'L'Europe de la Dentelle' by Martine Bruggeman, together with a large circular bertha (cut in two) of late 19th century polychromatic bobbin lace, probably Jesurum, 19cm deep, and three unmounted raised Honiton motifs of blackberry spray, bird and fern.   • The illustrated flounce, held by the Musée Historique des Tissus in Lyon, was manufactured by Verdé-Delisle of Alençon for the 1855 Paris Exhibition and was said to have been based on the design of a gown or a lace which had belonged to Marie Antoinette.
