With blued octagonal barrels, the upper one sighted and signed in gold, the lower one engraved with the address in script, each breech with two gold lines and platinum-lined touch-hole, engraved tang, signed engraved case-hardened locks each with blued external mainspring (one replaced), roller, safety-catch (one later), rainproof pan, and engraved 'French' cock, chequered figured walnut butt (minor bruising), foliate scroll engraved silver D-shaped trigger-guard and spurred pommel, the latter with gold cap engraved in script with owner's initials 'GHL', small vacant gold escutcheon, iron ramrod with chequered tip, and some original finish: contemporary fitted mahogany case lined in blue velvet with a cylindrical brass-mounted copper powder-flask, and a bullet-mould, the interior of the lid with maker's trade label, the exterior with circular escutcheon engraved in script with initials 'FHL'
