Signed Joseph Manton, London, No. 1018, Early 19th Century
With rebrowned twist octagonal sighted barrels signed in gold along the top and each with silver fore-sight, patent breeches each with two gold lines and gold-lined touch-hole, tangs each incorporating the back-sight and engraved with a martial trophy and foliage, detented border engraved flat locks each signed in script and decorated with a part foliate trophy on the tail and with a starburst behind the semi-rainproof pan, engraved cocks (one retaining screw an old replacement), safety-catch and roller, figured half-stocks with chequered rounded butts and each stamped '19 Tqx Vux' in small letters to the left of the barrel tang, iron spur trigger-guards each with pineapple finial, engraved with a martial trophy on the bow, and retaining traces of original blueing, silver barrel-bolt escutcheons, and horn fore-end caps (ramrods missing, iron parts with some rust patination and light pitting), London proof marks (2)
