Nicolás Bamproyssem y Bis ranks as one of the most important of all the Spanish gunmakers. Of German birth, Bis was a disciple in Madrid of the famous Juan Belén (the first to be dated by Isidro Solér in his Compendio histórico de los arcabuceros de Madrid), and was chosen to replace his master in 1691 as gunsmith to King Carlos II, although he had already served the royal household for at least three years prior to this date. Due to his 'exquisite ability in his profession of gunsmith', he was the first to have his entire output restricted to royal use (on 30 July 1713), and to him is attributed the idea of manufacturing barrels from horseshoe nails. He taught only his son-in-law, and died in 1726

Isidro Soler, disciple of Francisco López, was born in the village of Altarriva in 1740-41. Appointed honorary gunsmith to Carlos III in 1776, he is best known for his Compendio histórico de los arcabuceros de Madrid published in 1795. In 1797 he was chosen to care for the personal arms of Carlos IV. During the Peninsular War he was the only one of the four royal gunsmiths to survive, regaining his royal appointment in 1814, until his complete disability in 1818. He died in 1825
