Two early 19th century German silver serving dishes/tureens, covers and liners,
by Johann Georg Christoph Neuss, Augsburg 1821, also stamped Seethaler,
each of circular form with part-fluted decoration and raised on a scalloped-edged apron chased and embossed with anthemion motifs and scrolls on a matted ground, one supported on four couchant rams and having scroll handles, the other supported on four swans with raised wings and having coiled and bifurcated snake handles, both terminating in stepped circular bases with varying stiff leaf borders, domed covers applied with cast finials depicting kneeling putto with clasped hands, gilt liners with drop-ring handles, engraved with a coat-of-arms, weight 298.40oz.   • The arms of the Grand Duke Frederick Francis I of Mecklenberg 1815-37. The quarterings are Mecklenburg, Rostock, principality of Schwerin, Ratzenburg, County of Schwerin and Werle. Overall is the red and gold escutcheon of Stargard.
