168 A George II silver swing-handled fruit/bread basket,
by Edward Alridge, London 1751,
shaped oval outline with an applied and cast border of wheat-sheaves, acanthus leaves, fruiting vine tendrils and basket of fruit to each end, the flared sides pierced with scroll-work and anthemion motifs, the swing-handle issuing from the mouths of grotesques masks and applied with a scroll-edged vacant cartouche, centre now engraved with a coat of arms, raised on masked-capped and scroll supports, engraved scratch weight "46.10", height 8.5cm, length 35cm, weight 45oz.
