The original white silk rosettes and ribbons (with hook and eye fastening) still present the gorget is lined with fine white doe or buckskin, this in turn has a pasted in section of vellum, and is inscribed in French stating it was taken at the Battle of St Cast on the 11th September 1758 (Further details of this battle included in the lot). The breast star for the Order of St Louis measures 9.5cm features a cross with fleur-de-lys between arms, in the centre the standing figure of St Louis, two of the tiny fastening loops still remain, constructed of very fine gilt and metal wire and sequins, original paper back. The long service oval badge (6.5cm x 5cm) has a border of raised gilt metal chased with continuous leaf decorations, crossed swords tied with a ribbon are attached to the edge of the oval on a ground of red velvet (worn), the outer edge had four pairs of attachment holes, the reverse with a sheet steel plate and triple post provision for retaining the velvet.
