  • JOHN EVELYN'S SPECIALLY BOUND COPY OF ONE OF THE EARLIEST WORKS ON EGYPTOLOGY. A study of the "Mensa Isiaca", a bronze table top discovered in the ruins of the Temple of Isis in Rome in 1527 by the scholar Lorenzo Pignoria (1571-1631) who believed that it related to Egyptian ceremonies of sacrifice. The volume was purchased by Evelyn in 1645 at Venice, during his extended Grand Tour.
