Surmounted by a pineapple finial, over the reeded pediment and anthemeon corner mounts, the ripple moulded corners flanking tapered marquetry borders, on a low reeded plinth base raised on reeded supports, the 8 inch signed and painted Roman dial with moon hands and strike/not strike lever at XII, the twin fusee movement with anchor escapement, trip repeat, rack strike on a bell and pendulum lock, the back plate and pendulum bob with engraved borders. Height 53cm (21in)

  • There are a number of similar cases to this example, one currently at the Royal Observatory; another is illustrated in R.C.R. Barder's "The Georgian Bracket Clock", 1993, page 180 which is described as being "in the manner of George Bullock". Recent examples at Christies (2001) and Dreweattes (2011) have been attributable to Banting France & Co, while this case is not stamped it is almost certainly from the same workshop.
