Ship building at Greenwich signed with initials and dated 'GV 1823' (on foremost boat), oil on panel 31 x 40cm (12 3/16 x 15 3/4in).
Stamped to the reverse of the panel: 'R. Davy, 83 Newman Street'. This would date the panel to post-1822

In this catalogue of his collection Mr Holmes describes the painting thus: 'A charming study of vessels afloat and ashore - illustrative of life in Vincent's time in Greenich. A three-decker Man of War shored up with gangway opening in the side is carefully depicted and the detail of rigging is a pleasing feature.'
