An exceptionally fine warabe gusoku armour
Late Edo Period, 19th century
Made overall in iron in the manner of a full sized suit. The low rounded helmet bowl mounted in shiho jiro style with silvered plates overlaid with shinodare, gilt hoshi and tehen kanamono, on the front a kuwagata dai with kuwagata and a gilded oni maedate, a five-lame o-manju jikoro the fukigaeshi with a gilt copper shishi and peony design repeated on the sendan and kyubi no ita, black-lacquered menpo with hair moustache, o-sode and tsutsu gote. The ni mai do of kiritsuke kozane with the front covered by a tsurubashiri of doe skin printed with a design of shishi and peonies, hodo haidate, tsutsu suneate and a pair of kutsu together with a saihai and gunsen. Lacquered overall in gold and laced in red kebiki odoshi, the gilded copper kanamono of high quality.
Contained in a black-lacquered six legged kara bitsu decorated with a design of shishi and peonies in gold.
