"Nobody ever listened to me until they didn't know who I was."
The artist in Wall and Piece, Century, 2005, p.13

Ever since he first grabbed the public's attention in the middle of the last decade, Banksy has continued to hold of the title of most talked about and controversial artists in the United Kingdom. The 2011 Academy Award nomination for his documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop has cemented Banksy's reputation around the globe as a spray-can wielding dissident whose witty works make political points while charming the public with a distinctively sharp sense of humour. Along with his monkeys and rats, Girl With Balloon is one of his most iconic images, and also one of his most wistful.
