The 2011 Academy Award nomination for his documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop has cemented Banksy's reputation around the globe as a spray-can wielding dissident whose witty works make political points while charming the public with a distinctively sharp sense of humour. Along with his monkeys and rats, Girl With Balloon is one of his most iconic images, and also one of his most wistful.
