Links between the Timurid and Ming rulers increased after diplomatic exchanges in the first twenty years of the 15th Century. As a result of this a fashion developed for using Chinese paper in a variety of colours in manuscripts, more frequently poetry. For other examples of Timurid Qur'ans using such paper, see D. J. Roxburgh, Turks: a Journey of a Thousand Years 600-1600, London 2005, no. 178, pp. 228 and 421; and Sotheby's Oriental Manuscripts and Miniatures, London, 26th April 1995, lot 29.
