  • A SCARCE COMPLETE COPY OF ONE OF THE GREAT PIONEERING WORKS OF INDIAN PHOTOGRAPHY. W.H. Pigou was in the Bombay Army Medical Service in the 1850s and became a corresponding member of the Photographic Society of Bombay in 1854. After the Indian Mutiny of 1857 he was appointed by the Bombay Government to record Muslim architecture in Bijapur and Ahmedbad, replacing Colonel T. Biggs who had held the post since 1855. "Pigou died while photographing these sites, and was succeeded by A.C. Neill, of Mysore" (Johnson).
