The Birds of Jamaica, 2 vol., first edition, 52 lithographed plates, hand-coloured by Gosse himself, leaf of advertisements, without the list of subscribers, text in publisher's green cloth, plate volume red morocco by C[harles] Lewis (with ink pallet), bookplate of Quintin Hogg (1845-1903, merchant and philanthropist with extensive Caribbean interests and where an island is named after him), some rubbing [Nissen IVB 367; Freeman & Wertheimer 39 & 27a & b; Zimmer, p.250], 8vo and small folio, John van Voorst, 1847-1849; and a second copy of the text, in publisher's secondary cloth binding, inscribed by the publisher (3)
