Set to the front with five circular and oval rock crystal reverse-carved plaques, each inset to the centre with a brilliant-cut diamond in a lozenge-shaped collet within an engraved scroll border, connected by swags of finely engraved geometric and palmette-shaped linking, on a single backchain of similar engraved links, to an elliptical engraved clasp, mounted in platinum and yellow gold, unsigned, length 41.0cm., cased by Black, Starr & Frost-Gorham Inc, New York

  • Black Starr & Frost is one of America's oldest and most prestigious jewellers. Originally founded in 1810 under the name Marquand & Paulding, the firm formed numerous partnerships. By the 1860s, the firm was trading under the name Ball Black & Company and was regarded, along with Tiffany and Gorham, as one of the leading jewellers in America. In 1876 the firm moved to Fifth Avenue and changed its name to Black Starr and Frost where it continued to trade until 1929 when it merged with Gorham Co to become Black Starr and Frost-Gorham Inc. Throughout its long history and numerous name changes, the firms enduring designs and exemplary workmanship have ensured that it is still regarded as one of America's most prestigious jewellers.
