A multi gem-set and diamond scarab brooch/pendant, first quarter of the 20th century
In Egyptian revival style, the scarab centrally-set with a large cushion-shaped emerald within a surround of smaller circular-cut emeralds and one square-cut emerald, with circular-cut ruby eyes and a rose-cut diamond mouth, all in closed-back settings, the body, head and legs with engraved decoration to the front and reverse, the pierced outstretched wings millegrain-set with rose-cut diamonds and calibré and scissor-cut sapphires and synthetic sapphire highlights, surmounted by a similarly set lotus flower motif, the whole framed by alternating pearls and cultured pearls and collet-set old brilliant-cut diamonds, and courses of calibré-cut sapphires and synthetic sapphires, old brilliant-cut diamonds approximately 2.30 carats total, pearls untested, later brooch and pendant fittings, length 6.8cm
