Footnotes

  • The shield on the viewer's right, with two gold crosses on a red ground between two chequered flaunches is recorded for SHERINGTON of Sheringham, Norfolk, and of Medbourne and Lacocke, Wiltshire, and also of Worcestershire.
The shield on the left, incorrectly re-painted, appears to represent the HOUND or HOWND family of Cambridgeshire and Herefordshire, whose shield is recorded as silver with a red chevron charged with gold coins, between three black running hounds wearing collars.
Both these family arms are in their male format.
