A collection of 19th century Scottish jewellery
Comprising a bracelet formed as a series of faceted agate cylinders with engraved terminals and an agate-set heart-shaped padlock clasp with glazed locket compartment set with hair, a pink-grey granite brooch of Celtic design, two shield design brooches with coronet surmounts, the smaller set with an amethyst, the larger with a citrine, both with foiled quartz cabochons to the surround, and a brooch of axe and shield design (5)

    Four of the pieces are illustrated in 'Jewellery - The International Era, Volume II', by Shirley Bury, published by Antiques Collectors' Club, 1991. The bracelet and granite brooch are illustrated together on page 520, plate 273. Bury notes the brooch is possibly by James Fenton of Birmingham. The two shield-shaped brooches are illustrated on page 527, colour plate 130. Bury notes that the design is probably inspired by a large brooch given to Princess Alexandra in 1863, both bear an applied registry mark for 23 February 1866.
