A Flemish Or North Italian Close Helmet From A Cuirassier Armour
Circa 1620-30
With two-piece skull rising to a low comb and with iron plume-holder at the rear, bluntly-pointed peak, visor and bevor all pivoting at the same points, the visor with two large rectangular vision slits each with turned lower edge and a central rectangular 'mouth', two hooks and eyeholes on the right side, single neck-plate front and rear (old repair) with plain turn along the bottom edge, and iron and brass rivets, etched with parallel bands of running foliage and trophies of arms within cabled borders and with a mask on each side, the neck-plates etched with strapwork and foliage inhabited on one side of the rear plate by a lion and on the other side by his mate (the etching worn)
