Symond's Yat, ('yat' means a gate or pass) is one of the most spectacular features of the Wye Valley, and is at a point near Goodrich where the river flows through a narrow gorge. It is likely that this drawing was exhibited at The Royal Society of Watercolours in 1825 as Cristall exhibited two views of Goodrich that year entitled Cottage on Coppet-hill, near Goodrich (no. 15) and Cottage near Goodrich, Herefordshire (no. 48).
