Miss Margaret Davies and her sister Gwendoline purchased this work in 1910, shortly after they began the formation of their art collection in 1908 under the advice of Mr Hugh Blaker. The collection itself was essentially complete by 1924 and was highly praised for the quality and the inclusion of French 19th century works, which consisted of over half of the 200 work collection. Corot was one of the first artists favoured by the sisters and this work is one of six landscapes by the artist purchased in 1910.
