Thomas Stringer, Market Drayton, (c.1725-1780)
Having a 11.5inch two-piece dial, the silvered chapter ring signed 'Thos. Stringer Mark't Drayton', with Roman hours and Arabic minutes flanked by foliate half-hour divisions, framing a single-handed quarter-hour track, the matted centre with silvered subsidiary seconds dial between cast mounts, above ringed winding squares and foliate engraving, over a terrestrial calendar crescent, all within Four Seasons spandrels, and chevron engraving, the separate arch with silvered 'Tempus Fugit' banner held by an eagle, the knopped four-pillar movement with anchor escapement, rack-striking on a bell, the later carved case having a flat-hood with dentil cornice over turned columns, the arched long trunk door on panelled base on bracket feet, 235cm, (92.5") high, (sold with two weights, pendulum and winder)
