'A woman is walking with remarkable grace. Her hair blows in the wind. Her skirt hangs in the air. She has strong shoulders. Her pointed breasts and round stomach reflect her curving back. Her well formed legs and small feet carry her forward. The wind is behind her.' (Judith Collins, Lynn Chadwick, The Collection at Lypiatt Park, Ruder Finn Press, New York, 2006, p.62)

Chadwick had begun to clothe figures in drapery and illustrate them confidently motioning forwards into a strong headwind during the late 1970s. In Maquette V High Wind, which dates to 1984, the wind has grown more intense still to the point that it is fully consuming the woman and her face is concealed. This interesting and refined sculpture is an important addition to the development of Chadwick's figure studies and document of his mature style.
